Ear infections are a common condition in dogs. An estimated 20 percent of dogs have some form of ear disease, which may affect one or both ears. Symptoms include head shaking, scratching, dark discharge, odor, and redness or swelling of the ear canal.

Pruritus, or itchiness, is common in many types of skin disorders in pets. Itching and scratching are commonly associated with flea allergy dermatitis, seasonal allergies or atopy, food allergies, contact dermatitis, and mites.
There are different types of allergies in dogs including skin allergies, food allergies, and environmental allergens and symptoms can range from itching, gastrointestinal problems, hives, swelling, and constant licking.
